Dear Friends and Friends of Gombu
SUBJECT: GOMBU’S BIGGEST CHALLENGE – PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN
Please help to support Gombu in his biggest challenge yet. Sadly, this is not like his normal summit Everest kind. Gombu has been diagnosed with cancer and has to go to Delhi for immediate medical treatment. He will be away for around 8weeks.
As you are probably aware, there is no Health Service like the UK NHS, this just doesn’t exist in Nepal or India. As a result, it will be a big financial burden on Gombu and his family. We estimate this will cost £8,000-£9,000 which Gombu doesn’t have.
All who know Gombu personally, know how he touches people’s lives and what a difference he makes. If you haven’t actually met him, you will no doubt have heard some amazing story about him. He has many friends all over the world and we thought this is something we would all want to help with … no matter how small. Any financial contribution will make a difference, we feel sure. Please pledge as much as you can afford as well as sending your love and positive thoughts to him.
Gombu says he has had to change the SIM card on his mobile in Kathmandu … so many people have already tried to get in touch with him. While he’s out of action, we thought of setting up this blog conveying our positive thoughts for his speedy recovery, keeping everyone involved updated on how the fund is climbing (excuse the pun) and in return, news updates from Gombu in Delhi on his progress, whenever it’s available.
Robin is going to Kathmandu Wed 20th October to see Gombu before going off to climb an unclimbed peak with a group later in October. They planned this trip together. Unfortunately, this time they will not be travelling together. We never know what is around the corner …
Thank you in advance for whatever you are able to do.
Yours with gratitude
Patricia Rooney and Robin Hamer
P.S. Please pass this request onto anybody else you know who may wish to help Gombu
